The most common form of arthritis is Osteoarthritis. It affects almost everyone, to an extent, after the age of 60. It begins with the breakdown of cartilage in joints. This condition can be accelerated by factors such as obesity, repetitive joint motion and injuries. However, age, gender, joint alignment and heredity can also play a part. The most common joints affected are ankles, knees, hips, spine and fingers. You usually experience the discomfort (stiffness) after periods of rest such as sitting or sleeping.

Arthritis does not have to slow you down. If you currently have arthritis or suspect that you may, it is important to consult a podiatrist. Podiatrists are able to discuss various treatment options and help you choose exercises and activities that will be best for you.
